God Freely Gives
by A.J. Wilson

“"For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” Matthew 7:8-11

“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” Romans 8:32

“Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.” Galatians 4:7

“being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;”  Philippians 1:6

As I write this we are in preparation of a birthday party for one of our daughters.  We have bought some nice presents, a cake, and some party supplies; and then we allowed her to invite some of her friends over for a (hopefully) good time.  It is something we all love to do, those of us fortunate enough to have children, to shower them with expressions of love.  When it is over we desire to see expressions of happiness and gratitude on their face and it is worth the price we spent.  I believe we want to do these things because we have been made in the image of our Father. (Gen. 1:26)

Paul reminds us that we are the children of God, through Christ, in Galatians.  Then as Jesus spoke in Matthew 7 (above) God loves to give good things to us, far better than any human father.  God loved us enough to send Jesus, so He also is willing to send us other blessings as needed (Romans.)  These are just a few verses to show God’s desire to give to His children.  (Remember though that we sometimes give gifts which backfire, or do not produce good results; God does not do that since He has a plan for sanctification in our lives, and will not stray from that path. (Philippians))

Sometimes it seems as though God is withholding things from us since it is not in our time, or according to our thoughts; however as we can see from scripture God wants are well-being.  We may just need to seek out what God’s will is for our lives, before we ask.  We should not feel as though we need to beg things from God, He is a loving father.  Salvation, along with other blessings and gifts from God, are free from any “catches” and have no “strings attached.”  When we line up our lives with God’s intentions, we only have to “ask, seek, and knock” and our mighty Father will supply our every need out of the richness of his glory. (Philippians 4:19)
