Its not what I can do
by A.J. Wilson

“For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building.” 1 Corinthians 3:9

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,” Ephesians 3:20

“who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.” Titus 2:14

To do lists, agendas, calendars, obligations, meetings, witnessing, prayer burdens. . . is it any wonder that we get caught up with everything “I” must do, and get over burdened?  It is easy to do especially when we lose sight of our prayer time with Christ.  How hard is it to stop the rush of activity and events, to have a few minutes alone with Jesus?  Very hard, I know.  There are times for myself when I think I’m doing better, interjecting several short prayers during the day, asking for patience, endura“For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building.” 1 Corinthians 3:9

There are times for myself when I think I’m doing better, interjecting several short prayers during the day, asking for patience, endurance, or strength.  Yet as I look back, it is often so short that I do not really give Jesus any time to answer; I just rush back to the tasks at hand.    There is nothing wrong with short prayers, but Christ needs to be given opportunity to answer, and show the power He can wield.

On the other hand, we at times can become withdrawn from the world around us, and not have any fruit to show for it.  There is nothing wrong with taking time to rest when you have reached or are approaching your limit; yet we cannot checkout totally.  God has purchased and equipped us to bring glory to himself.  We are his special tools that He chose, personally.  He wants us to go and minister for him, harvesting good fruits and glory to his name.

Whichever end of the spectrum we find ourselves, we cannot forget the power of Christ within us.  He called us to do good works to bring Him glory, but not alone.  It was He that shaped us into what we are today, with an intended purpose.  He is always there, and as Ephesians 3:20 says, He can do it better, if we will just let him help.
