Mystery of God
by A.J. Wilson

"For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. . . . 14 But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. "See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.” Deuteronomy 30:11,14-16

“the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:26-27

Are there times that you set in a meeting, or a group, and feel you do not know what is going on?     Maybe it is a communication problem with the group (hearing, difference in language), or it could be a lack of knowledge of the situation.  It makes you feel like you are in a mystery.  At times in our lives, church services can feel this way.  Yet God doesn’t intend it to be that way forever.

Scientists have found methods to look deep into the galaxy and to see other galaxies in the universe, yet we have scarcely been able to leave our own planet, Earth.  Then we can ponder that God made the entire universe and everything in it. It makes it pretty amazing that He cares enough to reveal himself to us.  If he didn’t reveal himself we could never know him or attempt to get to know him.  He would be an unknown mystery to us.  But that is the beginning of the story.

The rest of the story is recorded throughout the Bible.  How God walked with Adam and Eve, talked to Noah and Moses, communicated through the prophets, and came to Earth by Jesus Christ.  Despite all God’s efforts, His gospel is still a mystery to the lost, and has been forgotten by many in the church.  The verses above should remind us that God wants us to spread the gospel, and the love of God.   It also reminds us of our call to righteous living.  The laws of the Old Testament have ceased to be the path of salvation, but are still the best guide for us to “be holy, because He is holy.”  Whenever we as Christians feel like we are not communicating with God as before, we should return to our first love.  Sharing the gospel, and reading God’s word will restore our communication with God.
