One Body Together
“Now all of you together are Christ's body, and each one of you is a
separate and necessary part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:27 NLT
“Just
as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all
have the same function,
so in Christ we who are many form one
body,
and each member belongs to all the others.” Romans 12:4-5 NIV
“He is the one who gave these gifts to the church: the apostles, the
prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their
responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work and build up the
church, the body of Christ, until we come to such unity in our faith and
knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature and full grown in the Lord,
measuring up to the full stature of Christ.” Eph 4:11-13 NLT Our bodies are actually several
systems of organs which work both independently and interdependently to keep
us alive.
The heart does not make the eye blink, but without the
heart, the eye would soon die.
The body is very resilient but if forced to
compensate for a missing or non-performing piece of this organization, other
parts will soon begin to shut down or become less effective.
In the same way, the body of Christ is not
working effectively, without all its members fulfilling their purpose. Did you know that you are
uniquely gifted to serve the church?
God has blessed you with an irreplaceable set of
tools to help you serve. What is your function here at
If you don’t know how to answer one or more of these
questions, take comfort that this is one more function of a church.
It is often the case that a brother or sister in
Christ is the one that points out where you are particularly gifted.
As you serve alongside other Christians,
your holy-spirit enabled gifts will begin to show themselves without extra
effort on your part.
God used fishermen, a tax collector, a tent
maker, and along with others, to start and spread his church; now he seeks
to use students, farmers, teachers, factory workers, bankers, retirees,
contractors, office workers, nurses, mechanics, and several others to
minister in this area.
