Relationships for God
by A.J. Wilson

“The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."” Genesis 2:18

“Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another. . .”Hebrews 10:24-25

Other than Jesus and your spouse, Who is your best friend? Do you have at least one other friend that you can share your faults and joys with?  Are these people also helping you along with your walk with God?  God made us to enjoy relationships and to glorify himself.  There are groups here at Rowletts that exist in order to help you with that.

While reading this week, I was directed to look at Genesis chapters 1 & 2.  At the end of each day, God said, “it was good.”  Yet all of a sudden chapter 2 verse 18 says, “It is not good . . .”  It was not good for man to be alone, so God made woman and marriage, and he also gave us a desire for other relationships also.  Part of being a New Testament church is to be friends with each other.  In the verses above, Paul and the writer of Hebrews instruct us to “carry one another’s burdens” and to “encourage one another” just as a good friend does.  Jesus exhorts us to love our neighbor as our selves, and we are the inter-dependent “body of Christ.”  A good Christian = a good friend.

There are many groups here at Rowletts Baptist Church which exist in order to form these relationships.  First in my thoughts are our Sunday School classes.  In my Sunday School class, the Faithful Warriors (led by Tim Isaacs) I feel that I can share with them without worry of ridicule, and they will also help pray for my requests.  Also a long-time staple in our church has been the Ladies Prayer Group, meeting the 1st Thursday of each month.  There are many wonderful friends in this group, and they have also been prayer warriors for our church.  There are also CIA groups for the youth and children each Wednesday night. Have you joined one of these groups?

One of our newest group opportunities is our men’s group, Iron Sharpens Iron.  Scheduled for the 2nd Thursday of each month, we will meet for an opportunity to have a service just for men.  It is hard at times to let go and show weakness in a mixed group but it can be helpful to have a group of like-minded men to encourage each other in our common interests and failings.  Our next meeting will be this Thursday, November 11th please join us.
