Revival of Workers
by A.J. Wilson

“if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

“Therefore prophesy and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord God: "Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up from your graves. I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live . . . Then you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken it and performed it," says the Lord.' " Ezekiel 37:12-14

“And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.” Romans 13:11 (see vs 11-14)

“For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 12:12-13

It seems much like an irony when I hear most people talking about revival. We generally hear excitement and happiness when a revival is coming, yet revival is not brought in happiness, but pain and anguish over sin. It is very exciting to come to these services we are having this week. Guest preachers and musicians bring a fresh and hopefully effective call for change. I pray that we will see lives changed and refreshed, for the work ahead. I’m sure there will be uplifting songs, probably some uplifting words spoken, and many gracious testimonies; however we must pray for the broken hearts and minds for revival to come.

Nearly every time we read of “revival,” or of the Israelites’ being “awakened” or “raised from the dead,” it is a result of recognition of sin, and turning from sin. Second Chronicles above mentions “humbling” ourselves and turning from “wicked ways,” and Romans 13 tells us to “cast off works of darkness.” Just as the people of the Bible had to separate themselves from sin to experience the most of God, so must we. And so thus is the paradox; in order to experience the full appreciation and joy of our salvation, we must be broken in response to our own sinful lives. The Christian life is full of such seeming contradictions, as Paul addresses in 2 Corinthians 6, specifically verses 8-10.

There is a whole world out there to reach for Jesus, yet it all scales down to us reaching our community for Christ. Pray for our revival all week, and pray that we will be renewed in our efforts to reach the people around us.
