Top 2 Percent On July 4, 1952,

Island and began swimming toward the
She had already swum the
English Channel both ways, from But after 15 hours in the
water, for the only time in her career, Florence Chadwick gave up and
climbed into the escort boat. Her mother tried to convince her the coast was
near. But in the fog they couldn’t tell how near. She later learned she was
less that a half mile from shore.
Several hours later, a
reporter asked, “What made you give up?” She replied, “It was the fog. If I
could have seen land, I could have finished. But when you can’t see your
goal, you begin to give up.”
On a clear, sunny day two
months later Florence Chadwick swam the Catalina Channel, beating the men’s
record by two hours. When she could see her goal, she could do what had to
be done.
Surveys show that only 2
out of 100 people have the self-discipline to accomplish the goals they set
for themselves. Where do you fit in this pattern of goal setting and goal
keeping? Have you been guilty of setting out to accomplish a goal and
stopping just before its completion? Or are you in that top 2 percent who do
what they set out to do?
Isn’t it a part of good
stewardship to exercise the discipline necessary to accomplish worthwhile
objectives in life?
I have found that for me a
visible goal has been something that I relied upon to keep me moving. My prayer is that you (and I as well) be able to KNOW that our goal may not always be available to the eyes but the goal of every Christians heart can been seen through faith. We are called to conform to the likeness of His Son. (Romans 8:29) So Brethren keep running the race and keep your hearts eyes on the prize set before you. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might (Ecclesiastes 9:10, NKJV). |
