What Can I Do “Also I heard the voice
of the Lord, saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then said
I, Here am I; send me.” Isaiah 6:8
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which
God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10 And whatever you do, do
it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men- Colossians 3:23
President John F. Kennedy spoke the immortal words, “And
so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you — ask what
you can do for your country.” in his inaugural speech in 1961.
The words have inspired many in our country to
join the military, to take civil service jobs, to volunteer, and so forth in
order to “do for ‘their’ country.”
We of course also need to ponder “What we can do
for our church?”
Sometimes we suffer from
“sitting-on-a-church-pew-itis” choosing comfort over calling (see Eph 2:10
above).
Some may say: “What can I do? I cannot quit my job and
become a pastor or missionary; I have to support my family.”
There are actually many ways that we can all
serve our Savior.
Live with Character-
When we go to work, and go about our daily lives, we can miss a great
opportunity to witness for Christ.
We should do everything as though we are doing
it for God (
Listen to Holy Spirit –
When we are in tune with the Holy Spirit there may be
some times that he asks us to “go and do” things for Him.
There will never be a shortage of work (the
harvest is great) but a shortage of those who will say, “Here am I, send
me.” Isaiah 6:8
Love with Christ-
Share his love and do
things with others, after all we were created for that purpose (Eph 2:10 & 2
Tim 3:17, Tit 1:16, 2:14, 3:8, Heb 10:24) |
